Celebrating success is essential, especially in a country where children face enormous barriers to completing their education. In Guatemala, only 61% of children finish primary school, and UNICEF reports that just 43% transition into lower secondary education. The situation is even more alarming for children growing up in high-risk communities, where poverty, violence, and instability push many out of school long before they reach adolescence. In some urban zones, dropout rates among at-risk children exceed 50%, and only a small minority go on to complete secondary education.
These stories could easily end in tragedy. But when a vulnerable child is paired with a committed, caring mentor—someone who believes in them, encourages them, and walks with them through challenging moments —the transformation can be extraordinary.
This year, the children enrolled in our mentoring programme in Guatemala achieved something truly remarkable: a 100% pass rate. Every child in the programme completed primary school and has now progressed into secondary education. In a country where so many young people are pulled out of school far too soon, this achievement represents more than academic progress; it is a lifeline, a shield against the dangers of street life, and a stepping stone toward a brighter, safer future.
Your generosity makes this possible. By donating through this year´s Christmas appeal, you are giving children the chance to stay in school, stay safe, and stay hopeful. With your support, we can reach even more children who are at risk of dropping out or ending up on the streets in the coming year.
Thank you for standing with us—and with them.
