The International Day of the Street Child

The International Day of the Street Child

Every year, we join organisations across the world to celebrate the International Day of the Street Child.

This year, Street Kids Direct helped support our partners in Honduras and Guatemala with street marches that publicised the rights of all children.

The International Day of the Street Child has been celebrated every 12th of April since 2018.  It is coordinated by the Consortium for Street Children in London and provides a voice for children whose rights have not always been recognised and protected by governments worldwide.

Hundreds of children took to the streets of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Tegucigalpa and Talanga, Honduras, to voice their concerns for street-living children worldwide.

Young children from Proyecto Manuelito, Honduras, presented a poignant and very moving drama. It told the story of how an abandoned child was treated on the streets and how, with the help of many people, he was rescued and given a loving home.

We are thankful to all the organisations that participated this year, together with the local municipal authorities, the police and local media companies.

As the Consortium explains, the day "provides a focus point to rally governments and individuals worldwide to work together to ensure their rights are protected no matter who they are and where they live."

Let´s continue to keep the pressure on governments worldwide to develop effective policies that will keep all children safe and help them achieve their full potential and live life in all its fullness.
